And we have a contest winner everyone! We didn’t have anyone land on the exact number but only one skein off was Uli with a guess of 376. The actual number on that table is 375 skeins. I won’t be able to show the colour yet as these yarns will soon be winging their way into the arms of many knitters. Thanks everyone for participating…that was fun and I appreciate you all dropping by!
And I’m sure you’d like to see the prize yarn colourway, yes? Here she is…a lovely semi-solid colourway on a 100% superwash merino base yarn.
Happy knitting Uli!

It has quite literally been ages since I held a contest so it’s high time I did again! And what better way then to celebrate the finish of a large order?! I have been uber busy the past few weeks with this order and I’m so pleased it’s finished. Finishing is a bit surreal really – putting that last label on and packaging it all up is a huge relief but it also makes me happy as these yarns will soon be winging their way into the arms of many knitters. Of course I can’t reveal the actual colourway until later and once they have been mailed. That would spoil the surprise so for now, they are all in grayscale just to tease everyone a little…LOL
So now, onto the fun part – the contest! It’s a simple one – guess how many skeins are in the yarn pile in the photo by leaving a comment and if you guess the right number, you win a skein of sock yarn in a surprise colourway! I will take the first correct guess as the winner and one guess per comment please. Contest closes on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at midnight. If you’d like to see more photos of the yarns, please click here. The last 3 grayscale photos are the photos you want to look at.
And finally, are you on Twitter? I’ve just started using this mini-blogging tool and it’s been a lot of fun! Come follow me and I’ll follow you back – click on the cute image to the left and it’ll take you to my page. It’s a really cool tool for keeping in touch – some of my tweets are about my daily life as a yarn dyer and some of it is regular life stuff. Hope you’ll join me if you haven’t already!
Happy Friday everyone! Have a wonderful weekend.
UPDATE: Contest is now closed and although the number wasn’t guessed exactly, I’ll be announcing the person who is closest during the day on Monday. Thanks everyone for playing – it was fun watching all the guesses come in!

Remember that big pile of yarn I had a contest to guess how many for? Well, here’s the colour…that’s a lot of pink eh? This order was a butt kicker but now everything seems not so bad since…LOL! I loved working on it even if it was very labour intensive. I swear sometimes I had no idea just how physically labourious yarn dyeing can be but when you have to create a pile like this, oh yes, it does test your resolve! For those handpainters out there that produce orders twice the size of this, bless you! I can’t see doing anything bigger than this without help though…all this by myself folks! Phew but doesn’t it look pretty? Darn colours get me everytime especially after an exhausting order like this that really make me wonder if I should pack it in or not. Ahhhhhh, colour!!

Wow, I’m just totally floored by how many participated in the “guess the amount of yarn” contest! I really appreciate everyone dropping by and giving their guess! It was a lot of fun to watch the numbers roll in and a couple of them even made me giggle – we had one as high as 1,600 which was too adorable because it came from Shain’s son! I wish it was that many!
So the grand total was 175 skeins – we did have 2 guesses for this number but I thought it most fair to award the first guess of this number as a lot of you probably didn’t say that many because it was already taken. For now I can’t show you the colour as it’s a secret until the recipients receive them in mid-February!
Stay tuned for more contests! I really love doing these! Katryna – you’re the winner and I’ve emailed you already!

I’m in the mood for a contest…how about you? I’m sooooo happy to be finished this order that I think it’s time to give away a bit of free yarn! I don’t know of a better way to celebrate than to have a contest!! Yay free yarn!!!! Let’s pass on the happy feeling.
All you have to do is guess how much yarn is in that pile! Only one guess per person please and the first who gets it right will win – if we get multiple guesses that are the same I may do more than one winner but for now, the first to get the right answer will be the winner! What do you get? Easy – yarn! LOL And in any colourway you want…simple! Guess away!
If you want to view another photo of the yarn or this photo a little larger, please visit my Flickr album by clicking here.

A custom-dyed semi-solid in purple for my prize winner who named my spinning wheel Bodhi! Thanks Aija! This is a lovely 100% superwash yarn in fingering weight. I hope the prize winner likes it!! 🙂
More contests to come soon too…it’s always fun to do custom yarn colours for my prize winners! And thanks everyone for entering again…it was fun reading everyone’s suggested names and it was tough to choose one – I had quite a few favourites!
Happy 4th of July to everyone in the USA and to my fellow Canadians, Happy Belated Canada Day!

She’s here, she’s really really here! Can you believe it? She’s so gorgeous too I have her sitting in my living room by the fireplace just soaking up the sunshine rays by the window. Now that I have her…what shall I name her? I feel a contest coming on!!!
I’ll give you until Monday, July 2nd at 9 p.m. EST to leave a comment with a name for her. Whichever name strikes my fancy the most will be the winner! One guess each please. If you’re the winner, you’ll receive a custom dyed skein of sock yarn in whatever colours you prefer!
Click the photo to see her bigger too – it’s worth it even if you aren’t entering the contest! Now I just need to learn how to spin 🙂
UPDATE: July 2, 2007 – CONTEST CLOSED NOW and a winner has been chosen! My spinning wheel will be BODHI because it feels the most zen to me and it means enlightenment. I hope to get many moments of enlightenment out of her while spinning yarn! Thanks Aija and believe me, it was tough – I also really liked Sunshine, Grace and Zena too. Thanks everyone for entering – I loved reading all the suggestions people had!

Here’s the colours! I won’t say who specifically it was for as I think there are still a few people to receive their packages.
Clicky the photo to see bigger and to see the colours close-up.
Seriously, that was a lot of work but what fun too! It was at least 3 different dye sessions and the fun part – each knitter should end up with a unique knitted item just because of my dyeing process – unique placement of colour and unique colour variations each time I hit the dye pot.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Why did I say it three times? Because I have 3 people who guessed within 1 skein of how large the pile was and rather than pick just one person to win, I thought, what the heck…I’ll send out 3 skeins! Sooooooooo, that being said, here’s the winning stats:
101 skeins or 25 lbs 4 oz
I had 2 guesses at 100 skeins and 1 guess at 25 lbs so the three of you are winners! You will get an email from me today sometime!
And what a great turnout everyone! That made me so happy I’m going to hold contests again in the future so watch for them.
As for Yarn4socks.com… they are featuring me for the month of May which is totally exciting and I’m about to send them the yarn! Go check them out if you haven’t already and watch for my yarn to be released on May 1st. I will also have a little interview on their blog. Thank you to Donna and Valerie for this opportunity…I really appreciate it!
