Lace Weight Dyeing – OOPS!

In Dyeing on January 8, 2006 at 6:27 pm

Well, here’s the thing…lace weight is so thin you can’t dye it the same way as you do the sock yarns! DO NOT let the water come to a boil…it will felt or will become felt-like! It wasn’t “boiling” that long either…only a couple of minutes. Not only that but the dyes didn’t permeate the yarn quite like they did the sock yarn…probably the added yardage in this hank as well as the thinness of the yarn! So guess what I did? Threw it back in and re-dyed it…again, that probably didn’t help the “felting” issue too much either! 😐

Oh well, it sure is a lovely colour though…darn it anyways! It will be a nice “on display” item in my cabinet though and I’ll use it for decoration! I certainly can’t sell it this way but what a great learning experience…

The moral of this story? —–> MUST BE MORE CAREFUL WITH LACE WEIGHT YARNS!
